The Torres del Oeste are a set of defenses that Bishop Cresconio ordered to build after repelling a Viking attack, in the town of Catoira, in Galicia, to protect Santiago de Compostela from an incursion from the Atlantic. In 1719 they also protected the port of Padrón against an attack by the English. They were declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure by decree of June 3, 1931.
