Summary of the original work
Sizes: 160 cm wide x 160 cm high.
Year: 2020
The tragedy of immigration does not stop, and this diptych is a symbolic reflection. In the news the press reports on Africans crossing the Mediterranean, on Syrian refugee camps. In all countries the media speak of immigrants, some manage to reach the First World, others stay in the desert or die at sea. This work is an interpretation of the myth of Icarus. The labyrinth is poverty, the wings the desire for freedom, which in most cases is not achieved. This piece is a witness to those who have no voice, to failures, to those who never achieve their dreams. It is a key piece in my work both for its format and the way it is executed. I convey chaos, violence and horror through gestural abstraction and the incompleteness of the "unfinished" areas. The charcoal drawing gives that feeling of fragility and accentuates the energy of the bird man falling from the sky, which fails.
