Portrait of Arya Stark, fictional character from the saga A Song of Ice and Fire by writer George RR Martin. He is one of the main characters in the series and the only one to have his own chapters in each of the books in the saga.

Arya is introduced as the daughter of Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. She is shown as a willful, stubborn girl, with character and who defies the female roles of her time. In the HBO television adaptation, Game of Thrones, actress Maisie Williams Arya Stark is played by an independent, witty and strong-willed girl despite her young age (9 years at the beginning of the saga) who has a disenchantment with activities more feminine

His most valuable possession is his sword Needle, a fine sword gift from Jon Snow. He maintains an animosity relationship with his sister Sansa Stark who has very different tastes and hobbies from Arya's.

She is fond of the activities typical of a knight (fighting with swords, practicing with bow and arrow), more totally inept in traditionally feminine tasks such as embroidery, music or singing (unlike her sister Sansa), which generated frustration in his parents and his tutor, Septa Mordane, from whom he flees on numerous occasions, avoiding his classes.

From the beginning of the saga, Arya shows a strong and independent character, which according to her father, is very similar to that of her late aunt Lyanna (what Ned Stark called "The spirit of the wolf"). Throughout the series, Arya will awaken new abilities on her long journey to reunite with her family, a journey that will take her to remote and safe places, hand in hand with characters that will help her advance on her path of revenge.
