This is one of the few paintings I did twice. The first one I sold, but I liked it so much, so I decided to do another one. Because the original painting is done in a classic style, I learned a lot while working on them.
I was visiting Berlin and we visited most sight seeings over there, including some palaces. When I took home some flyers I found the photo from the original painting and started doing some research on it.
Dutchess Louise of Mecklenburg Strelitz (Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie / 10 March 1776 – 19 July 1810) was Emperor of Prussia as the wife of King Frederick William III. The couple's happy, though short lived, marriage produced nine children, including the future Monarchs Frederick Williams IV of Prussia and Wilhelm I, German Emperor. Her legacy became cemented after her extraordinary 1807 meeting with French Emperor Napoleon I at Tilsit she met with the emperor to plead unsuccessfully for favorable terms after Prussia's disastrous losses in the Napoleonic Wars.
Another powerful lady, portrayed by me, (40x60cm) William Rowan.
